Belfast Charitable Society are proud to announce the return of our Reconciliation Fund supported President's Talk Series, in conjunction with Dr Eamon Phoenix and other noted historians. The lectures will be via Zoom broadcast live on Thursday evenings at 7pm, commencing 3 February 2021. Each lecture will last approximately 60 minutes followed by a Q&A session. Mary Ann McCracken- A Life Through Poetry (Zoom Event)

Mary Ann McCracken was a remarkable abolitionist, philanthropist and social reformer. To mark Mary Ann’s birth, and in recognition of her own cultural endeavours, the Foundation have engaged renowned poets Ruth Carr and Raquel McKee to explore Mary Ann’s life and contemporary relevance through poetry. The audience will hear recitals of original works and have the opportunity to contribute to discussions between poems. This is set to be a fascinating event offering not only an insight in to the past, but also the issues that we face in society today. To mark the anniversary of Mary Ann McCracken's passing, Clifton House and the Mary Ann McCracken Foundation are proud to host this virtual Zoom talk exploring how Mary Ann McCracken’s story has been written throughout the years. From her first biography in the late 1800s, to Mary McNeill’s seminal text on her life (1960; republished 2019) and the most recent publication by John Gray.
