Beginnings – The Story of the First Board of the Belfast Charitable Society

This week we were delighted to celebrate the launch of Beginnings – The Story of the First Board of the Belfast Charitable Society, the latest publication by our President, Sir Ronnie Weatherup, at Clifton House Belfast.

Hosted by Professor Alastair Adair, Chair of Belfast Charitable Society, the event offered guests a fascinating insight into the inspiration behind the book and the remarkable lives of the nine men who formed the Society’s first Board.

During the event, Sir Ronnie explored the origins of Belfast, the political, religious and social changes that shaped the town, and the challenges involved in establishing and managing the original Poor House and Infirmary – now Clifton House.

Thank you to everyone who joined us as we celebrated another important chapter in the history of Belfast Charitable Society.

‘Beginnings’ is a wonderful addition to the Society’s historical publications, bringing to life the people and events that helped shape both Belfast and the organisation we are proud to represent today. Our thanks go to Sir Ronnie for his time and commitment in writing the book, and to the Ulster Historical Foundation in publishing it.

The book is available to buy now from Clifton House. Priced at £10, all proceeds from the book will go towards the ongoing philanthropic work of the Belfast Charitable Society.
